The Quality Specialist acts on behalf of NB Power and is responsible to develop a project quality plan, to carry out inspections of the work, to participate in construction and commissioning turnover reviews, and to identify and report on any deficiencies and non-conformances.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provides input to tender documents as they relate to quality.
- Prepares quality plan for project as required.
- Prepares Inspection and Test Plans for work performed by NB Power personnel.
- Reviews and accepts Inspection and Test Plans submitted by external contractors and coordinates input from others as appropriate.
- Reviews contractor quality manuals.
- Determines witness and hold points.
- Reviews construction turnover packages for completeness prior to turnover to commissioning, including redline drawings and deficiency lists.
- Performs field surveillance to monitor quality of ongoing construction and commissioning activities.
- Performs pre-turnover walkdowns with contract supervisors, construction and commissioning personnel and aids in compiling deficiency lists.
- Reviews commissioning turnover packages.
- Reports non-conformances and assists with development and implementation of dispositions.
- Assists contractors with clarifications on quality-related matters.
Required Skills and Expereince
- Relevant experience in excess of three (3) years’ work experience related to quality program implementation in an industrial or construction environment with preference given to NB Power experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of quality procedures, standards, i.e., ISO 9001
- Post-Secondary education in a certified mechanical industrial trade or electrical trade, technologist certification, mechanical and/or civil and/or electrical or engineering degree in related discipline.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience related to quality program implementation in an industrial or construction environment.
- Education, training and or experience in codes and standards including ASME Sect III code, CSA N285.0, B31.1, B51 and CSA N286.0
- Education, training and or experience in the Canadian Electrical code.
- Education, training and or experience in additional codes and standards such as National building code, plumbing code, and National fire code, NFPA and CSA N293.
- Proficiency in document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel).
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory and willing to travel.
Education Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in engineering or physical science, while not required, would be considered an asset.
- Work experience and/or accreditation in the areas of Quality inspection or examination are considered an asset, such as: Education, training and experience in Non-destructive examination (NDE) methods and weld inspection (CWB) certification

- Ability to learn to use new tools and adapt existing tools to the task at hand.
- Ability to communicate in both English and French would be considered an asset.
