Raise is currently hiring a SCADA Generation/Distribution Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

The P&C Engineering SCADA Design Team provides engineering expertise and support to high voltage transmission substations, generating stations and distribution facilities. Our team also provides project management, design, maintenance and emergency response services to the company and selected external clients. The successful candidate will be part of the SCADA design team delivering complex, multi-discipline capital projects for . This role requires experience with the design, configuration, testing and troubleshooting of SCADA systems in electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV. Demonstrated experience working with utility SCADA systems design, including the design, configuration, testing, and maintenance of GE RTU products (i.e. GE D400, D20, D200, D25, IBOX), Ethernet networks, DNP3 protocol, Modbus Plus® protocol, and protocol test equipment and software and other similar systems used in electrical utility substations.

Responsibilities            

  • Delivering capital work involving integration of remote monitoring and control equipment of the power system. Providing design, development and testing of equipment used in substations, generating stations and the distribution system
  • Undertakes a variety of engineering assignments and is responsible for a project or part of a project. providing instructions, advice, and technical leadership, including reviewing work and ensuring compliance with standards and procedures; interacting with external service providers and reviewing designs for compliance with  standards & practices
  • Uses initiative and judgment to develop innovative engineering techniques and applies theoretical and practical knowledge in the analysis and resolution of problems. Discusses unusual problems with senior engineers or the supervisor.
  • Maintain strong constructive relationships with internal and external clients and across the organization also including external service providers, contractors and suppliers as required.
  • Works under general supervision, with work assigned in terms of specific objectives.
  • Reviews overall plans and provides guidance for unusual features.
  • Completed work is normally accepted as technically accurate and is reviewed for feasibility and soundness of judgment.
  • Checks work and provide guidance to assigned staff.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of in a relevant engineering field with Significant experience in SCADA system design within an electrical utility environment.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead parts of multi-discipline capital projects.
  • Experience working with transmission stations ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
  • Advanced knowledge of GE RTU hardware, Ethernet networking, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to resolve complex technical problems using innovative engineering techniques.
  • Exceptional communication skills for cross-discipline integration and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to work under general supervision while maintaining technical accuracy and soundness of judgment.
  • Class 5 driver's license
  • Basic First Aid certification
  • Nice to haves:
    • Automation and SCADA experience
    • Any NERC related experience
    • Previous utility experience
  • Education and Certifications
  • University graduate in applied science or engineering
  • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

Additional Information

  • Travel to substations as required
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
