  • Pay Rate: $189.68/hour, depending on experience
  • Contract Length: 9 months with the possibility of extension
  •  – approximately 40 hours per month based on the project needs

 Raise is currently hiring a Expert AI Advisor on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is an essential player in Alberta's Energy Industry, that prioritizes safeguarding public safety and environmental integrity while fostering responsible, efficient, and secure energy development

 

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

 

Description

The AI Advisor in this role will provide part-time strategic and technical advisory services to the Director, Digital Enablement and Artificial Intelligence within IMT. The Advisor supports three defined areas, in order of effort: AI strategy advisory to the Director, 's positioning as an AI-ready regulator with respect to industry's AI adoption, and selective input to 's AI governance framework. The Advisor is not a decision-maker. The Director retains accountability for 's AI direction, governance ratification, resource commitments, and external representation. The Advisor's role is to inform Director-level thinking, surface risks the Director may not see, and review work product before it goes to AISC, ELT, or Board.

Engagement Model

  • Utilization: Targeted at 30–40 hours per month.
  • Accountability: The Advisor informs; the Director leads.
  • IP: All work products remain the property of our client.

Scope of Services & Key Pillars

1. AI Strategy Advisory (40–50% of Effort)

  • Strategic Stress-Testing: Review and critique draft AI capability roadmaps, build-vs-buy options, and use-case prioritizations produced by staff.
  • Technical Direction: Provide perspectives on Generative AI, Agentic AI, and vendor-embedded AI within the context of existing ecosystem (Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Azure, Databricks).
  • External Scanning: Track provincial/federal policies and peer regulator moves to flag material implications for the roadmap.
  • Portfolio Sequencing: Advise on the layering of platform-neutral capabilities to ensure long-term scalability.

2. Industry-Facing AI Advisory (30–40% of Effort)

  • Market Intelligence: Maintain a pulse on how oil and gas operators, investment analysts, and environmental consultants are using AI to consume data.
  • Data Standards Advocacy: Recommend improvements for "AI-ready" data publishing, focusing on machine-readable formats like GeoJSON, Markdown, and REST APIs.
  • Modernization Roadmap: Prioritize data products (e.g., Information Hub, ST37, Water Use Report) for AI-readiness.
  • External Positioning: Support the Director in co-authoring materials for industry forums to establish as a leader in regulatory AI.

3. Governance & Risk Input (15–20% of Effort)

  • Framework Alignment: Ensure AI initiatives align with global standards including NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, OSFI E-23, and the EU AI Act.
  • Policy Review: Provide expert feedback on major revisions to the AI Acceptable Use Policy and Governance Strategy.
  • Impact Assessments: Advise on Algorithmic Impact Assessment (AIA) scoping for high-risk (Tier 3) use cases.

 

Deliverables & Expectations

  • Quarterly Strategy Memos: High-level updates on directional shifts and portfolio risks.
  •  Quarterly Industry View Briefings: Insights on industry AI adoption for ELT/Board consumption.
  •  Annual Positioning Observation: A "state of the union" report comparing to peer regulators.
  •  Policy Reviews: Expert feedback on core governance documents as issued.
  •  Monthly Status Notes: Summary of hours used and work in flight.

 

Requirements

  • 10+ years of executive consulting or senior advisory experience in AI strategy or data products.
  • 5 years of experience within the public sector or heavily regulated industries (specifically Energy or Natural Resources).
  • A proven track record of authoring materials for and presenting to Executive Leadership Teams (ELT) and Boards of Directors.
  • Deep understanding of how industry stakeholders consume public regulatory data via AI tools.
  • Working knowledge of machine-readable standards (JSON, OGC API Features, etc.).
  • Proficiency in NIST, ISO, and federal/provincial AI directives.
  • Preferred (Recommended) Assets
  • Prior experience with a Canadian energy regulator.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Microsoft Purview, Defender for Cloud Apps, and Copilot Studio governance.
  • Familiarity with specific products (ST37, BOS, Pipeline Performance Reports).
  • Education
  • BSc Computer Science (specializing in AI/ML), Data Science, or Information Management. (MBA, Master’s or PhD prefered)
  • Nice to have certifications CISM, CIPP/C, (AIGP (Certified AI Governance Professional), AI and Data Governance Certificate, NIST AI RMF Lead Implementer or ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor/Implementer.,
