Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Telecom & IS Network Design Engineer to join our clients IS Network Design & Engineering team. This role is pivotal in executing a diverse portfolio of asset lifecycle, infrastructure growth, and operational enhancement projects across our North American footprint.
In this role, you will apply professional engineering principles to design, build, and commission robust telecommunications systems and physical infrastructure. You will bridge the gap between traditional IT networking and industrial operational technology (OT), ensuring that our corporate, SCADA, and control system networks at field facilities are secure, resilient, cost-effective, and fully compliant with regulatory standards.
Working under general supervision, you will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, lead design initiatives, and mentor junior engineering staff, ensuring all deliverables are executed on schedule with zero compromise on safety or quality.
Responsibilities
- System & Physical Infrastructure Design: Develop comprehensive engineering designs for physical telecom infrastructure, including optimal rack space allocation, DC/AC power distribution, thermal management, and structured cabling topologies.
- Industrial Network Engineering: Analyze, architect, and generate technical designs for TCP/IP-based network and telecommunications systems serving Corporate, SCADA, and Control System networks at industrial field facilities.
- Project Lifecycle & Commissioning: Lead projects from initial requirements gathering and scoping through to remote and field commissioning, ensuring systems are successfully integrated into active operations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with business units, field operations, and external vendors to translate complex technical and operational requirements into cost-effective, scalable engineering designs.
- Quality Assurance & Risk Mitigation: Maintain rigorous quality assurance standards to mitigate safety, financial, and operational risks associated with schedule-driven project execution.
- Team Collaboration: Function as a cohesive, complementary member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, providing technical leadership, peer reviews, and mentorship to junior team members.
Qualifications
- 4 to 7 years of Telecom Infrastructure Design experience – rack space planning/layouts, power budgeting/distribution (AC/DC), and structured cabling/fiber design.
- Industrial Field Facility Operations – Prior field experience working within high-stakes, regulated environments (e.g., oil and gas, utilities, heavy industrial facilities). Exposure to facility safety protocols and physical site constraints is highly desired.
- End-to-End Project Execution & Remote Commissioning – experience with full engineering lifecycle—moving seamlessly from requirements gathering and design generation to deployment and remote/field commissioning.
- Industrial Networking & IP Architectures experience – proficiency in designing TCP/IP-based networks specifically for industrial field facilities. (demonstrated experience segmenting Corporate, SCADA, and Control System (OT)networks).
- OT & Legacy Protocol Familiarity – Practical knowledge or integration of RS-232/RS-485 serial protocols, alongside a foundational understanding of automation end-devices such as PLCs, RTUs, and HMIs.
- Schedule-Driven Delivery & Team Leadership – track record of executing schedule-driven projects with strict quality assurance to eliminate safety and financial risks.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Diploma in Engineering Design Technology or Network Engineering Technology
- Preferred Certifications, CCNA, CCNP ect
- Nice to have Vendor-Specific Training (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens)
