Position – Design Engineer
- Pay Rate: $95K – $100K Base USD Yearly
- Location: Union City, CA

About the Role
- We are seeking a passionate and innovative Design Engineer to join our team in developing cutting-edge surgical devices. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping to commercialization and continuous improvement.
- You will play a key role in translating user needs into high-quality, reliable products while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver world-class medical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine innovative product designs from concept through production
- Create rapid prototypes using 3D printing, machining, and other techniques
- Generate and contribute to intellectual property, including invention disclosures
- Lead technical design efforts and mentor junior engineers
- Perform engineering analysis such as FEA, fatigue analysis, FMEA, and DOE
- Develop and maintain engineering drawings aligned with global standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new product development and improvements
- Support quality and regulatory processes in compliance with FDA (21 CFR Part 820) and ISO 13485
- Participate in root cause analysis, non-conformance investigations, and corrective actions
- Conduct testing to evaluate product performance and replicate customer issues
- Design for manufacturability, sterilization, automation, and biocompatibility
- Analyze field data and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement
- Provide technical support to customers and internal stakeholders as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Materials Engineering (or related field)
- 4+ years of experience in medical device product development
- Strong expertise in SolidWorks and CAD-based mechanical design
- Experience with rapid prototyping and hands-on testing
- Strong analytical skills with experience in engineering fundamentals and problem-solving
- Ability to think at a systems level and manage competing requirements
- Experience across the full product development lifecycle
- Knowledge of design controls, risk management, and traceability
- Experience in plastic and/or metal component design
- Strong communication and technical documentation skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with reusable surgical instruments or metal components
- Familiarity with PDM systems and specification documentation
- Background in statistics and design of experiments (DOE)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with occasional warehouse interaction
- Regular use of computers, communication tools, and engineering equipment
- May involve light physical activity such as walking or lifting as needed
Travel
- Up to 10 to 20 percent travel for customer interactions and project needs
