Raise is currently hiring two (2) Microwave & OTS Design Engineers on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Microwave & OTS Design Engineer in this role will be responsible for providing expert technical solutions for medium-to-high complexity telecommunications projects. You will be responsible for the planning, design, and quality management of point-to-point microwave networks and Optical Transport Systems (OTS) to ensure the safety and reliability of the organizations critical infrastructure.
As a senior technical lead, you will resolve unusual design challenges, conduct independent analysis, and contribute to the evolution of engineering standards within the Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) framework.
Responsibilities
- System Design & Planning: Lead the planning and deployment of point-to-point microwave networks, including frequency planning, link budget calculations, site selection, and path surveys.
- Technical Problem Solving: Resolve highly technical and unusual field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting complex data.
- Standards & Quality: Develop and apply engineering standards, conduct technical design reviews, and ensure all solutions align with ’s Quality Management Pillar.
- Project Support: Assist management in meeting safety, cost, and timeline objectives by proposing plan changes, estimating costs, and coordinating work schedules.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability within the team.
- Professional Governance: Work under the organizations Professional Practice Management Plan; ensure all work is sealed using your own (or your firm’s) Permit to Practice with EGBC.
Qualifications
- 8 years of progressive engineering experience in telecommunications system design.
- In-depth knowledge of microwave network planning, path surveys, and link budgets.
- Strong knowledge of Microwave and OTN transport equipment; familiarity with IP networking and MPLS technologies is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with CAD systems, drawing standards, and standard industry design/analysis software.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, with a focus on technical report writing and professional presentations.
- Solid understanding of task management processes, budget oversight, and contractor payment recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex assignments and take initiative as a self-starter.
- Intermediate MS Office skills; willingness to subscribe to digital seal technology (Notarius) for official documentation.
- Commitment to Growth: Proactive engagement in professional development, including technical courses and participation in professional societies.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
- P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Additional Information
All project documentation produced during the contract will be retained by the organizaiton to satisfy EGBC Bylaws.
Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
