Equipment Engineer – Fired Equipment
- Pay Rate: $75.00 – $85.50/hour on W2
- Contract Length: 12 months

Overview
- The Equipment Engineer – Fired Equipment provides technical engineering support for fired equipment across refinery and chemical plant operations.
- This role serves as the primary engineering point of contact for boilers, flares, thermal oxidizers, and other fired equipment, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
- The position focuses on troubleshooting, strategy development, maintenance planning, and long-term asset reliability for fired equipment systems.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact (POC) for fired equipment support, including boilers, flares, and thermal oxidizers.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support; take ownership of issues escalated from specialists when problems cannot be resolved at the frontline level.
- Support base operations, including day-to-day equipment performance monitoring and operational issue resolution.
- Lead and support turnaround planning activities specific to fired equipment.
- Develop annual maintenance plans, scope selection, and execution strategies for fired equipment assets.
- Support strategic planning, forecasting, and long-term reliability initiatives for fired equipment.
- Perform equipment engineering evaluations and recommend design, operational, or maintenance improvements to enhance safety, reliability, and performance.
- Support and manage equipment-related projects, including troubleshooting-driven and improvement-based projects.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and other Engineering disciplines.
- Communicate effectively across teams, providing technical guidance and recommendations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering (required).
- 2–5+ years of relevant engineering experience (fired equipment experience strongly preferred).
- Direct experience with boilers, thermal oxidizers, fired heaters, or related fired equipment.
- Background in operations support, troubleshooting, and/or project execution.
- Strong working knowledge of standard engineering concepts, practices, and procedures related to fired equipment.
- Ability to anticipate and solve problems by integrating operational, mechanical, and process knowledge.
- Capable of independently owning and executing work with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to support and assist cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with fired heater simulators is a plus.
