  • Pay Rate: $75.00 – $85.50/hour on W2
  • Contract Length: 12 months
  • Location: Baton Rouge, LA 70805 (Onsite) 

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. 

Overview

  • The Equipment Engineer – Fired Equipment provides technical engineering support for fired equipment across refinery and chemical plant operations.
  • This role serves as the primary engineering point of contact for boilers, flares, thermal oxidizers, and other fired equipment, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
  • The position focuses on troubleshooting, strategy development, maintenance planning, and long-term asset reliability for fired equipment systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact (POC) for fired equipment support, including boilers, flares, and thermal oxidizers.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support; take ownership of issues escalated from specialists when problems cannot be resolved at the frontline level.
  • Support base operations, including day-to-day equipment performance monitoring and operational issue resolution.
  • Lead and support turnaround planning activities specific to fired equipment.
  • Develop annual maintenance plans, scope selection, and execution strategies for fired equipment assets.
  • Support strategic planning, forecasting, and long-term reliability initiatives for fired equipment.
  • Perform equipment engineering evaluations and recommend design, operational, or maintenance improvements to enhance safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Support and manage equipment-related projects, including troubleshooting-driven and improvement-based projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and other Engineering disciplines.
  • Communicate effectively across teams, providing technical guidance and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering (required).
  • 2–5+ years of relevant engineering experience (fired equipment experience strongly preferred).
  • Direct experience with boilers, thermal oxidizers, fired heaters, or related fired equipment.
  • Background in operations support, troubleshooting, and/or project execution.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard engineering concepts, practices, and procedures related to fired equipment.
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems by integrating operational, mechanical, and process knowledge.
  • Capable of independently owning and executing work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support and assist cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with fired heater simulators is a plus.
