Commissioning & Start-Up (CSU) Control System Specialist
- Contract Length: 5 Months
- Location: McArthur River, Saskatchewan
- Fly In Fly Out Camp accommodations provided
- Rotation (2 weeks in-2weeks out, 11 hours a day)
- Company Charter Flights provided – Departing from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
- Contractors are expected to travel to Saskatoon for chartered flights to camp sites.

Description
The Commissioning & Start-Up (CSU) Control System Specialist in this role will be responsible for developing, testing, configuring, and commissioning PLC and DCS programs across ’s industrial control networks. Acting as a critical technical bridge between engineering design and field operations, this intermediate role ensures all automated systems operate exactly as intended while maintaining absolute compliance with rigorous industrial safety and cybersecurity protocols.
Responsibilities
- Systems Development & Programming
- Program Authoring: Develop robust PLC and DCS programs using engineering inputs, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and control narratives.
- Testing & Optimization: Test, modify, and update automation logic to verify full field functionality against project design documents and engineering drawings.
- Networking & Connectivity: Configure, test, and commission industrial networking devices (switches, firewalls) and manage the critical interfaces connecting Industrial Control Systems (ICS) to standard IT environments.
- Field Commissioning & Quality Assurance
- Loop & Field Verification: Collaborate actively with the broader commissioning team to verify the functionality of field devices; systematically troubleshoot and isolate issues stemming from configuration or logic loops.
- Deficiency Tracking: Identify, document, and track software and hardware deficiencies, ensuring all points are satisfactorily closed out before handoff.
- As-Built Documentation: Maintain rigorous records of final as-left conditions, updating redlines for engineering documents, drawings, and project files.
- Compliance: Complete all -defined commissioning records, including specialized check sheets, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and formal test reports.
- Safety, Productivity & Execution
- Safety Leadership: Adhere strictly to all site safety, job hazard analyses (JHA), and industrial cybersecurity program requirements.
- Planning Support: Participate in daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and provide technical inputs to shape detailed work execution schedules.
- Collaborative Execution: Monitor schedule progress and productivity, working cross-functionally to eliminate field bottlenecks and deployment barriers.
Qualifications
- 4 to 9 years of dedicated industrial automation and commissioning experience
- Extensive PLC programming experience with Schneider PLCs and Control Expert (previously Unity Pro)
- Extensive DCS configuration and programming experience with Delta-V system (Key Lake only)
- Experience with Delta-V DCS Historian and connection to OSI PI via OPC-UA (Key Lake only)
- Extensive DCS configuration and programming experience with EcoStruxure Foxboro DCS system (Cigar and McA only)
- Experience with EcoStruxure Foxboro DCS Historian and connection to OSI PI via OPC drivers (Cigar and McA only )
- expert knowledge of industrial instrumentation and industrial data protocols with focus on Modbus TCP/IP and HART
- Extensive experience of Industrial Networking, including configuration of switches, firewalls, and other related hardware
- Strong understanding and adherence to Industrial Cybersecurity best practices
- Experience in Windows server administration including creating and maintaining Virtual Machines in Hyper-V is preferred
- Education and Certifications
- Technologist Certification Required (e.g., CET or equivalent engineering technologist designation).
