  • Contract Length: 5 Months This is a PART TIME ROLE at .30 FTE
  • 4 shifts of 14 days onsite per year. The shifts will be on-call, there is no regular cadence
  • Location: McArthur River, Saskatchewan
  • Fly In Fly Out Camp accommodations provided
  • Rotation (2 weeks in-2weeks out, 11 hours a day)
  • Company Charter Flights provided – Departing from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
  • Contractors are expected to travel to Saskatoon for chartered flights to camp sites.

Raise is currently hiring a Part Time Commissioning & Start-Up (C&SU) Control System Specialist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client is a Canadian global leader in exploration, mine engineering, and environmental protection.

Description 

The C&SU Control System Specialist plays a critical role in the safe, efficient, and successful commissioning and integration of industrial automation systems across ’s operations. This role is responsible for programming, configuring, testing, and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and industrial network infrastructure.

The successful candidate will bridge the gap between engineering design and operational reality, ensuring all control infrastructure is rigorously validated against engineering documents, cyber security frameworks, and strict industrial safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Automation & Control Systems Engineering
  • Program Development: Develop, modify, and update PLC and DCS programs based on engineering inputs, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and control narratives.
  • Testing & Verification: Functionally test and verify PLC/DCS configurations to ensure full alignment with engineering design documentation and drawings.
  • Field Integration: Collaborate with the broader commissioning team to verify the functionality of field devices; identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues root-caused by PLC/DCS configuration or programming.
  • As-Left Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of final, accurate "as-left" conditions of PLC/DCS configurations by redlining engineering documents, drawings, and project blueprints.
  • Industrial Networking & Cyber Security
  • Network Configuration: Configure, test, and commission industrial networking hardware, including managed switches, firewalls, and data interfaces.
  • IT/OT Convergence: Manage and secure the interfaces between Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Information Technology (IT) systems.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all executed work strictly abides by ’s operational safety programs and Industrial Cyber Security requirements.
  • Quality Assurance, Compliance & Reporting
  • Deficiency Management: Identify, document, and track system deficiencies. Provide proactive input and follow-up to ensure all technical punches are resolved and closed satisfactorily.
  • Commissioning Documentation: Complete and sign off on -defined commissioning records, including functional check sheets, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and formal test reports.
  • Project Execution & Collaboration
  • Planning Support: Provide technical input and support to the development of detailed execution plans and schedules.
  • Productivity Monitoring: Monitor work schedules and productivity, collaborating cross-functionally to eliminate execution barriers.
  • Safety Leadership: Actively participate in all commissioning team meetings, including daily toolbox talks, safety alignments, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).

Qualifications

  • 5 to 10 years of hands-on, direct field experience in i heavy industrial environments (such as mining, oil & gas, petrochemical, or large-scale utilities)
  • Direct experience on a Commissioning & Start-Up (C&SU) team
  • Extensive PLC programming experience with Schneider PLCs and Control Expert (previously Unity Pro)
  • Extensive DCS configuration and programming experience with Delta-V system
  • Experience with Delta-V DCS Historian and connection to OSI PI via OPC-UA
  • Extensive DCS configuration and programming experience with EcoStruxure Foxboro DCS system (Cigar and McA only)
  • Experience with EcoStruxure Foxboro DCS Historian and connection to OSI PI via OPC drivers (Cigar and McA only )
  • expert knowledge of industrial instrumentation and industrial data protocols with focus on Modbus TCP/IP and HART
  • Extensive experience of Industrial Networking, including configuration of switches, firewalls, and other related hardware
  • Strong understanding and adherence to Industrial Cybersecurity best practices
  • Experience in Windows server administration including creating and maintaining Virtual Machines in Hyper-V is preferred
  • Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation/Control Systems Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or Computer Engineering Or Engineering Technology in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Automated Systems/Robotics Technology.
  • Eligibility for or registration with a provincial professional body (like ASET or APEGS) is highly preferred
