Description 

Our client is seeking a fully qualified and accredited Telecom Commissioning Engineer to join thier team. In this role, you will apply both theoretical and practical engineering knowledge to review test results for telecom equipment during its commissioning phase, ensure strict adherence to engineering standards, and produce critical compliance documentation, including Test Report Cover Sheets (TRCS).  This role operates within a structured professional practice environment, ensuring low-to-medium complexity utility telecom projects are executed safely, with high quality, within budget, and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Commissioning Quality Assurance: Review comprehensive test results for telecom equipment during commissioning to ensure asset performance meets all operational expectations.
  • Compliance Documentation: Produce accurate and timely Test Report Cover Sheets (TRCS) to validate equipment readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Standards Management: Review and interpret Commissioning Engineering Standards, ensuring all field work maintains utility engineering integrity.
  • Project Support: Assist project and operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and scheduling goals. This includes proposing plan adjustments, reviewing contractor deliverables, and preparing clear progress reports.
  • Engineering Risk Mitigation: Conduct independent studies and technical analysis for standard methods and designs. Actively engage with senior engineering team members when complex or unusual technical challenges arise to manage engineering risk.
  • Site Compliance: Periodically perform independent on-site construction quality control and monitoring to verify design compliance in the field.

Qualifications

  • (4) years of experience in a relevant engineering field, with a proven track record in equipment commissioning.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of IP networking principles within an industrial or utility environment.
  • A Telecom Engineering background is strongly preferred; however, an Electrical Engineering background with robust telecom asset experience will be considered.
  • Practical knowledge of Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) equipment and legacy telecom transport systems.
  • Nice-to-Haves
  • Utility Infrastructure: Prior experience working within a power utility or heavy industrial infrastructure setting.
  • Design Systems: Familiarity with CAD systems, standard industry design/analysis software, and utility drawing standards.
  • Education and Certifications
  • University graduate in applied science or engineering
  • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
  • Intermediate to advanced English communication skills (written and spoken) tailored for a professional engineering and corporate environment.

Additional Information  

  • Candidates in this role will be working a hybrid schedule of at least 2 days a week in the office 
  • Travel to site across BC – once per year
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
