Raise is currently hiring a two (2) Mechanical Technologists on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client is a Canadian global leader in exploration, mine engineering, and environmental protection.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description

The Mechanical Technologists will join our clients  engineering design group. In this role, you will execute mechanical design work using 3D modeling and point cloud technologies to deliver 3D models, 2D drawings, and complete construction packages for ongoing operational and capital projects. Working closely with Mechanical Engineers, you will contribute to process piping, equipment layout, HVAC, and industrial utility designs in compliance with the organizations established CAD standards and engineering procedures.

Responsibilities            

  • 3D Modeling & Layout: Develop detailed 3D mechanical models, piping layouts, general arrangements (GAs), and equipment positioning using AutoCAD Plant 3D and 3D Point Cloud data.
  • Smart P&IDs & Drawing Generation: Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to build and maintain intelligent P&IDs, HVAC systems, and mechanical design drawing sets.
  • Work Package Preparation: Draft comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) and construction work packages (CWPs) ready for procurement and field execution.
  • Laser Scan Integration: Process and integrate 3D point cloud data (CloudWorx / JetStream) into Plant 3D to support brownfield modifications and clash detection.
  • Quality & Standards Compliance: Adhere strictly to ’s internal CAD standards, drafting procedures, and quality assurance workflows.

Qualifications

  • Intermediate Mechanical Technologist (1 Position)
    • 4 to 9 years of mechanical design and drafting experience in heavy industrial, mining, chemical, or energy sector projects.
    • Ability to work independently on standard modeling tasks and drawing packages with guidance on complex layouts.
  • Senior Mechanical Technologist (1 Position)
    • 10+ years of progressive mechanical design and drafting experience within heavy industrial or mining operations.
    • Strong leadership in 3D plant layout, complex piping systems, brownfield integration, and CWP development.
    • Ability to review work packages, guide intermediate layout staff, and liaison directly with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Required Technical Skills & Tools
  • CAD / Modeling Software: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Point Cloud & Laser Scanning: Practical experience using CloudWorx and JetStream for 3D point cloud modeling in brownfield environments.
  • Process & Mechanical Systems: Background in process piping, pumping systems, mechanical equipment layout, industrial HVAC, and building mechanical services.
  • P&ID Intelligence: Hands-on experience creating and updating smart P&IDs in AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Preferred Assets
  • Familiarity with heavy industrial design safety standards and Canadian piping codes (ASME B31.3).
  • Education and Certifications
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or equivalent) from an accredited polytechnic institute.
  • Professional Technologist designation (ASET / SASTT / CETA or equivalent Provincial CAD/Technologist Certification).
