Construction Technologist

  • Pay Rate: $64.85/hour, depending on experience

Raise is currently hiring a  Construction Technologist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

The Construction Technologist in this role will perform a variety of duties related to planning, estimating, scheduling, and field coordination for construction projects across generation, substation, and transmission & distribution facilities. This role bridges office estimating with field execution, ensuring construction activities are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Estimating & Cost Control: Prepares detailed cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and direct cost calculations for materials and components. Applies established markups for overhead recovery, assesses risk factors in pricing, and maintains up-to-date unit cost and productivity rate databases.
  • Scheduling & Project Progress: Develops work schedules and tracks project progress using graphs and charts. Reviews Cost/Progress reports, evaluates the impact of schedule changes on costs, and advises project managers on discrepancies or required plan adjustments.
  • Procurement & Bid Analysis: Compiles schedules of pay items for estimates, bid submissions, and subcontract tender documents. Analyzes contractor submissions, verifies quantity calculations, obtains supplier quotes, and prepares documentation for material, equipment, and subcontract procurement.
  • Field Coordination & Technical Support: Provides technical advice, direction, and work coordination to field crews, construction trades, and external resources. Conducts site surveys, assists with basic drafting/design updates, and operates electrical testing equipment where required to prepare technical reports.
  • Contract Administration: Assists in preparing contracts and Requests for Proposals (RFPs), verifying supplier specifications, and ensuring compliance with civil, mechanical, or electrical standards.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in construction and/or project management (field or office environment).
  • Strong knowledge of Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical disciplines (with a working knowledge of at least one other discipline), alongside familiarity with relevant construction codes and utility standards (generation, substation, transmission & distribution).
  • Proficiency in project management, estimating, scheduling, and costing software, with basic drafting/CAD skills.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and negotiation skills to coordinate multidisciplinary construction trades and project teams.
  • Solid understanding of project accounting processes, job cost reporting, and the ability to clearly explain financial aspects of projects to technical staff.
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and have a personal vehicle available to complete site visits across the region.
  • Nice to haves:
  • Direct experience supporting utility, heavy civil, or industrial construction projects.
  • Education and Certifications
  • Diploma of Technology from a recognized institute of technology, OR
  • Degree in a construction-related field (Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business Administration, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, or Forestry), OR
  • A related Red Seal / Trades Qualification (e.g., Electrician, Power Line Technician, Winder, Millwright, or General Trades 1).

Additional Information

  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network
