Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to support its Carbon Storage projects, applying reservoir engineering and simulation expertise across the full project lifecycle, from site screening and appraisal through development, operations, and long-term storage stewardship.
Working inside a multidisciplinary team, the engineer builds and evaluates dynamic reservoir models, assesses injectivity and pressure management, and helps mature carbon storage assets into safe, compliant operations.
The role also carries a technical leadership component: guiding and mentoring reservoir engineers and supporting peer reviews that keep the Reservoir Team's technical standards high.
This is a contractor position and calls for deep, hands-on reservoir engineering experience in oil and gas or carbon storage.
Responsibilities
- Build, history match, and maintain reservoir simulation models, including INTERSECT or ECLIPSE, to support carbon storage resource assessment, development planning, and operational decisions.
- Evaluate reservoir performance, injectivity, pressure evolution, and storage efficiency through analytical and numerical reservoir engineering studies.
- Conduct storage resource assessments, forecasting, and uncertainty analyses to support project maturation and investment decisions.
- Identify, assess, and communicate reservoir risks tied to injectivity, pressure management, plume migration, and long-term storage performance.
- Support appraisal planning, development planning, and injection well programs through performance forecasting and reservoir engineering evaluations.
- Interpret pressure transient tests, well tests, and interference data to sharpen reservoir characterization and surveillance.
- Develop and evaluate injection optimization strategies that protect storage integrity while meeting regulatory requirements.
- Lead or participate in peer reviews to uphold high technical standards across the Reservoir Team.
- Partner with geoscience, drilling, regulatory, and monitoring specialists to deliver integrated subsurface solutions.
- Contribute to technical documentation and regulatory deliverables that support carbon storage permitting.
- Mentor less experienced reservoir engineers on simulation work and other technical studies.
- Present technical findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to management, partners, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- University degree in engineering, geoscience, or a related field.
- Demonstrated reservoir engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, applied to carbon storage, depletion, or related subsurface work.
- Hands-on reservoir simulation experience, including model construction, history matching, and forecasting in INTERSECT or ECLIPSE.
- Working knowledge of PVT, inflow/outflow, relative permeability, and SCAL evaluations that feed into simulation studies.
- Experience with pressure transient testing, well test interpretation, and reservoir surveillance.
- Ability to identify reservoir issues and independently develop and execute solutions.
- Comfort working across multidisciplinary teams spanning geoscience, drilling, regulatory, and monitoring specialists.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to brief audiences from senior management to field engineers.
- Willingness to guide and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Proficiency with standard computer tools, including Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to travel or work away from home for extended periods, as project needs require.
