Consultant/Senior Category Lead
- Pay Rate: $77.42/hour, depending on experience
- Contract Length: 6 Months

Raise is currently hiring a Consultant/Senior Category Lead on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Steel Industry Subject Matter Expert and Supply Chain Professional in this role will lead a critical, high-impact six-month engagement. The objective of this assignment is to develop a comprehensive steel profile and foundational market analysis to determine whether establishing a dedicated, strategic steel category will deliver sustainable long-term value and strategic benefit to our procurement portfolio.
Operating with minimal oversight, you will leverage your deep expertise in the global and domestic steel industry, manufacturing, pricing mechanisms, and supply chain dynamics to assess ’s current steel footprint and chart a path forward.
Responsibilities
- The contractor will be responsible for developing a comprehensive steel profile to support the assessment of a potential steel category.
- Key responsibilities will include:
- Gathering and analyzing internal steel spend, demand, specifications, and usage data across .
- Engaging with key stakeholders across all functions at , including Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Capital Projects, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, and Finance, to understand current and future steel requirements.
- Mapping the steel supply market, including key producers, distributors, fabricators, suppliers, and market dynamics.
- Identifying sourcing opportunities, supply chain risks, and commercial considerations.
- Assessing supplier capabilities, market competitiveness, and relationship opportunities.
- Consolidating findings into a comprehensive steel profile, including spend, demand, supply market, risk, and opportunity assessments.
- Developing recommendations on whether a dedicated steel category should be established, including potential category scope, strategy, and resource requirements.
- This work will provide the foundational analysis needed to determine whether a dedicated steel category would deliver sufficient value and strategic benefit to the organization.
Required
- Approximately 15–20 years of relevant industry experience, including deep technical and commercial knowledge of steel manufacturing, steel suppliers, and supply chains.
- Strong understanding of steel pricing mechanisms, market indices, global supplier dynamics, and the impact of geopolitical events and global tensions on supply chains.
- Demonstrated experience supporting procurement, sourcing, or contract strategy initiatives related to steel or heavy industrial commodities.
- Nice-to-Have Experience
- Experience developing comprehensive category, sourcing, or procurement strategies for steel or related commodities.
- Background in conducting detailed market analysis and assessing evolving industry trends.
- Familiarity with large-scale utility, infrastructure, construction, or heavy industrial procurement environments.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field (Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Finance) or equivalent technical discipline.
- Master’s Degree (MBA, Operations Management, or Engineering) is strongly preferred.
- Certifications or additional training in Project Management, Change Management, Facilitation, or Communication are considered strong assets.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Additional Information
- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
- Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
