Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.   

 

Job Overview:

  • The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight for the electrical design, development, and execution of facility expansion and maintenance capital projects. Working closely with third-party engineering firms, internal project teams, operations, and shared services groups, the incumbent ensures that all electrical systems are designed in compliance with corporate standards, industry regulations, and project requirements while meeting established cost, schedule, safety, and performance objectives.
  • This role plays an integral part throughout the project lifecycle, from scope development and design review to construction support and project closeout. The Senior Engineer also acts as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance, mentoring junior engineers, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the development of electrical project scopes, execution strategies, schedules, capital cost estimates, risk assessments, and supporting documentation during project development.
  • Oversee electrical engineering activities performed by external engineering consultants to ensure alignment with project objectives, technical requirements, budgets, and schedules.
  • Ensure all electrical facilities and systems are designed in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, industry codes, engineering standards, and company specifications.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve electrical engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, technical reports, specifications, and material lists.
  • Assess vendor quotations, perform technical bid evaluations, and recommend equipment and material selections based on technical performance, cost-effectiveness, and delivery requirements.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain teams to facilitate procurement activities and support material acquisition through internal systems and processes.
  • Analyze lessons learned from completed projects and implement improvements to enhance future project execution and design quality.
  • Provide technical support and engineering expertise throughout construction, commissioning, startup, and project closeout activities.
  • Act as a technical advisor to project teams, operations personnel, construction stakeholders, and other internal business units.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and team members, fostering knowledge sharing and professional development.
  • Lead or contribute to departmental initiatives, process improvements, and engineering best-practice development.
  • Coordinate with internal functional groups to ensure project scope definitions satisfy environmental, regulatory, health, safety, and operational requirements.
  • Support cross-functional project reviews and facilitate stakeholder alignment on design requirements and project expectations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate technical risks that could impact project safety, cost, schedule, reliability, or operational performance.
  • Provide support and technical assistance to peers and senior staff to achieve business objectives, maintain compliance, and drive successful project outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement throughout all project activities.

Scope & Impact:

  • Accountable for the successful delivery of electrical engineering solutions within assigned projects that have significant operational and financial impact on the organization.
  • Provides technical leadership and oversight for complex electrical engineering designs and project execution activities.
  • Coordinates technical resources and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Influences project outcomes through sound engineering judgment, technical expertise, and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Provides informal leadership and mentorship to engineering peers and project team members.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Project Managers – Provide regular updates regarding project progress, cost performance, schedule status, technical issues, and project risks.
  • Supervisor, Facilities Project Engineering – Communicate project status, priorities, challenges, and engineering recommendations.
  • External Engineering Consultants – Direct and monitor design activities, review deliverables, and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Operations Teams – Collaborate on design requirements, operational considerations, facility integration, maintainability, and project execution strategies.
  • Supply Chain and Procurement Teams – Support sourcing activities, technical evaluations, vendor selection, and material procurement.
  • Construction Teams – Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Internal Functional Groups – Coordinate with safety, environmental, regulatory, maintenance, and shared services teams to ensure project compliance and successful execution.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering design, project execution, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Strong technical expertise in 480V electrical systems, motor control systems, and industrial power distribution.
  • Extensive knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), medium-voltage switchgear, and electrical power distribution systems.
  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering standards, industry codes, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering consultants and reviewing technical design deliverables.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and lead organizational or process improvements.
  • Proven capability to independently manage multiple projects while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong aptitude for resolving complex technical and business challenges through sound engineering judgment.
  • Broad understanding of the interdependencies among project stakeholders and organizational functions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working within capital project environments in industrial, utility, energy, manufacturing, or related sectors.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment
  • Stress levels can be above normal as project work is deadline-oriented, highly visible, and numerous activities are conducted concurrently
  • Overnight business trips to the field may be required; usually requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
