Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.
Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Project Controls Engineer to support its Advanced Graphite Venture, a new synthetic graphite facility in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, that will produce battery anode material for electric vehicles. The project passed Gate 2 and is moving on an accelerated schedule toward mechanical completion, while the underlying technology is still being proven. That means design and scope changes will keep coming, and this role sits at the center of capturing them, estimating their impact, and keeping the forecast accurate. Reporting to the Project Controls Lead, the Advisor owns management of change, monthly reporting, and forecast adjustments on a project with a single EPC contractor. The assignment starts as a one-year contract, with extensions and the opportunity to roll onto follow-on projects within the venture.
Responsibilities
- Administer the Management of Change (MOC) process, tracking scope and design changes as the technology matures.
- Estimate the cost and schedule impact of proposed changes so the team understands their magnitude before decisions are made.
- Meet with engineering and project team members to understand what is changing and translate it into forecast adjustments.
- Produce monthly cost reports detailing budgets, approved changes, commitments, and forecasts, using historical trend analysis where available.
- Track growth and savings against the Gate 2 basis to help the team avoid surprises at Gate 3.
- Pull and analyze cost data from SAP, ensuring the accuracy of everything the project publishes.
- Build dashboards and reports in tools such as Smartsheet and Power BI to speed up analysis and decision making.
- Partner with the project scheduler to tie schedule changes to cost and forecast impacts.
- Support development and review of the start-up schedule and help identify cost and schedule vulnerabilities.
- Review the EPC contractor's progress, forecasts, and change proposals for cost and schedule basis.
- Establish and maintain interfaces with key project stakeholders and deliver accurate, timely project controls reports.
- Support stewardship reviews and gate preparation led by the Project Controls Lead.
- Travel roughly 25% of the time to the Baton Rouge engineering office and the Hopkinsville, Kentucky site (as needed)
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 8–12 years of project controls experience with a strong focus on cost control, forecasting, and change management.
- Cost estimating experience sufficient to size the impact of scope and design changes.
- Owner-side project controls experience; a mix of owner and EPC is welcome, but the background should lean owner.
- Experience on single large capital projects, not only a portfolio of small projects.
- Proficiency in SAP, including navigating the system to extract and validate cost information.
- Working knowledge of scheduling and how schedule drives cost and forecasting.
- Technical accuracy and attention to detail in cost reporting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to draw out change information from engineering and project teams.
- Local to the Houston area and able to work onsite at the Spring, Texas campus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Smartsheet and Power BI.
- Experience with EcoSys.
- Field or construction site experience.
- Owner experience on manufacturing or process facilities.
- other major operator experience, including familiarity with EMCAPS.
- Previous supervisory or mentoring experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) or Mechanical.
