Job Overview
We are seeking Senior Project Controls Advisors to join the Brownfield Projects organization within Global Projects. Brownfield projects revamp, upgrade, or replace equipment at existing plants, so the work always carries a live operational interface. Most projects fall in the $5 million to $20 million range, and each team member typically supports several projects at once. With about 20 major projects coming over the next year across the Gulf Coast, offshore, Canada, Europe, and Asia, the team is adding multiple experienced controls professionals now.
This role takes over once a project is funded at Gate 3. You track actual spend and work hours, update forecasts, manage changes, and tell the project team early whether it is on track or at risk of exceeding its funding. The organization is moving most of its global projects into ECOSYS for forecasting and change management, so you help put that platform to work. The role is 100% onsite in Spring, Texas, with qualified candidates already living near the Baytown, Beaumont, or Baton Rouge sites able to work from those sites without relocating. The assignment runs one year with potential extension, and experience is helpful but not required.
Responsibilities
- Monitor actual costs, work hours, and progress on funded projects, updating forecasts monthly or in real time as conditions change.
- Produce or oversee cost reports detailing budgets, approved changes, commitments, and forecasts, using available data and historical trend analysis.
- Analyze whether projects remain on track to funding as contingency and allowances are drawn down, and communicate findings clearly.
- Track changes and project vulnerabilities, assess their cost impact, and flag issues that could push a project past its funding threshold.
- Pull and evaluate actuals and work hours in SAP to support accurate forecasting.
- Set up projects in ECOSYS and use it as the basis for forecasting, change management, and project stewardship.
- Connect schedule progress to cost, using schedule changes and progress analysis to sharpen the forecast.
- Establish and maintain interfaces with key stakeholders, including construction, execution, engineering, and procurement teams, and deliver accurate, timely Project Controls reports.
- Provide project controls, planning and scheduling, and project services expertise to projects as needed.
- Support the Project Controls Supervisor in updating tools and processes.
- Mentor and train less experienced Project Controls staff.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
- 10+ years of project controls experience, including funded, execution-phase capital projects.
- Hands-on SAP experience tracking project actuals and work hours.
- Strong cost control, forecasting, and change management experience.
- Multiple international project assignments.
- Knowledge of project management best practices and key work processes.
- Competent or expert proficiency in several project management skills, such as project controls, execution planning, contracting strategy, contract administration, cost estimating, and planning and scheduling.
- Demonstrated leadership, with strong influencing, consulting, mentoring, analytical, and computer skills.
- Strong organizational, business, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work 100% onsite in Spring, TX, or at a Gulf Coast site, and willingness to travel to project sites, domestic or overseas.
Preferred Qualifications
- ECOSYS experience, including setting up projects in the tool (strongly preferred).
- Primavera P6 planning and scheduling skills, including understanding of activity logic and schedule optimization, not only data entry.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Brownfield project controls experience in refining, chemicals, or upstream and offshore environments.
- Availability to work about 7 AM to 3 PM to maximize overlap with the India-based engineering team.
