Cassandra Database Engineer

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Position Overview

The Cassandra Database Engineer is an expert in NOSQL database technologies, specializing in Cassandra database administration. This role focuses on database operational activities and requires strong expertise in public cloud technology (AWS and/or GCP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform database performance analysis and production operations review.
  • Manage database operations including incident response, alert resolution, and third-party support engagement.
  • Deploy and maintain database monitoring solutions.
  • Test and build restore and recovery procedures.
  • Handle platform deployment, installation, patching, change management, and software upgrades.
  • Develop and deploy database hardening procedures across cloud, hosted, and on-premises environments.
  • Provide expert support to technical support and project delivery teams.
  • Participate in platform review, benchmarking, tuning, and security evaluation.
  • Recommend proactive improvements and design changes for production platforms.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • HS diploma with 8+ years of Cassandra administration experience (administration only, not architecture/design).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science preferred (8–10 years’ experience).

Technical Skills:

  • 8–10 years of Cassandra administration experience.
  • Extensive background with public cloud database deployment, management, and migration.
  • Expertise in database standards, processes, and deployment methodologies.
  • Strong experience managing production database change management (cloud, hosted, on-prem).
  • Expert in high availability database architecture deployment.
  • Linux operating system background is required.
  • Experience with GitLab, Terraform, Datadog.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Proactive, team-oriented, and strong leadership qualities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • DataStax Enterprise Cassandra administration experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting and production operations background.
  • Experience with database performance evaluation and benchmarking.
