Tape Librarian

Pay Rate: Up to $25.00/hour, depending on experience.

Work Type: Onsite – Houston, TX 77042

Work Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Duration: 6-month contract with possibility of extension and/or conversion based on performance and other factors.

Raise is currently hiring a Tape Librarian on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Job Overview:

The tape librarian will care for and maintain the inventory of magnetic computer tapes, NAS/USB disks within the Houston Tape Library. The tape librarian will be responsible for final verification of all client’s deliverable disks and tapes for the routine maintenance of the tape library.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary individual to perform projects within the tape library.
  • Serve as primary focal point for the xmittal program.
  • Coordinate and/or manage all tape pools (create, expand, reduce pools and create labels for all tapes)
  • Verify all disks/tapes for outgoing client shipments.
  • Register all incoming media and document it.
  • Address any media catalog issues for users or archive personnel.
  • Manage all media error reporting, including flagging media with soft and hard errors in appropriate catalog.
  • Coordinate with Computer Operators for daily operations and media needs for the tape library (silo).
  • Generate media reports as required by DMS & IT DP.
  • Coordinate activities required to locate media via database searches.
  • Ensure proper care and handling procedures for computer tapes.
  • Retrieve, file, sort media for internal use. (WH, Archive, User)
  • Retrieve and box media for outgoing shipments.
  • QC, label, and file media from incoming shipments.
  • Load and eject media in silos via generated lists.
  • Maintain and follow all library work procedures and instructions.
  • Perform routine maintenance of the tape library.
  • Search for "not in rack" tapes and coordinate results with Supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Quality Assurance procedures, QHSE requirements and departmental working practices.
  • Other duties assigned by the group leader or supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent or College Degree.
  • Three to five years of tape technician or computer operations experience.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Familiar with all aspects of tape library operations.
  • Strong computer skills and understanding of databases.
  • Knowledge of MMS tape management. Disciplined and well organized.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under time constraints.
  • Capable of training and assisting back-up personnel.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to lift 20 -25 lbs.
