Telecom Design Engineer

  • Pay Rate: $100.00 /hour, depending on experience

Raise is currently hiring a Telecom Design Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description 

The Telecom Design Engineer in this role will provide technical support of protection and control systems related to generating units and associated auxiliary equipment. This role performs on the system / facility design, solution and device test and standardization of telecommunications network focusing on IP/MPLS networks to support project / sustainment activities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans). 
  • Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates. 
  • Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and Design Practices. 
  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC. 
  • Provide preliminary and detailed design packages for telecom projects involving microwave communication, channel banks, SONET multiplexer, teleprotection, fiber optic networks, C band/Ku band satellite, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, Power Line Carrier, -48 VDC Power systems, and IP/MPLS networks. 
  • Specify and procure materials, coordinate panel assemblies and staging, and testing of equipment panels prior to shipping for installation. 
  • Prepare construction requirements documents and circuit cutover plans. 
  • Prepare technical specifications, test plans and commissioning documents for the installation of telecommunication infrastructure. 
  • Prepare and issue channel authorizations, design configurations and settings. 
  • Provide technical guidance and support throughout the design process (cross-discipline integration, factory testing, installation, commissioning, and operations). 
  • Provide training for end-users and peers on the theory and operational use of the installed or modified equipment/systems.
  • Work Assignment Requirements:
    • Prepare technical specifications, test plans and commissioning documents for the installation of IP/MPLS routers and cards
    • Design and Configure Nokia IP/MPLS and Cisco IP/Firewall routers and other related routers/switches, LTE CPEs. Setup Lab to execute IP/MPLS test plan
    • Prepare IP/MPLS Test Report after lab or field testing to standardization of solutions or device introductions.
    • Sustainment support IP/MPLS, and IP/Firewall networks

Qualifications

  • (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering with experience providing technical support of protection and control systems related to generating units and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience with the system and detailed design of telecommunications networks involving microwave communication, channel banks, SONET multiplexer, teleprotection, fiber optic networks, C band/Ku band satellite, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, Power Line Carrier, Power systems, and IP/MPLS secure networks.
  • Experience related to generator protection, control and associated systems, including practical and theoretical knowledge in protective relays, programmable logic controllers, excitation system, governor systems, and fault analysis / investigation.
  • Experience with preparing project documentation and deliverables in accordance with project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
  • Experience with preparing design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
  • Education and Skills 
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, likely Electrical Engineering or Computer/Telecommunications Engineering.
  • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired

Additional Information 

  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 10 or 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
