The Construction Supervisor acts on behalf of NB Power and is responsible for site monitoring of construction activities, ensuring the Contractor conducts work safely and effectively in accordance with the project plan, on schedule and within budget. This includes managing all site activities, conducting site meetings and regular reporting to the Construction Manager. The Supervisor is specifically for the terminal expansions at Memramcook and Salisbury.
Your role will involve
- Directs, manages and coordinates all activities on site
- Works with the Contractor to coordinate work activities to ensure cost and schedule targets are met.
- Coordinates with the Materials Planner to arrange for materials to be provided to the contractor by NB Power.
- Monitors, evaluates and reports progress against construction schedule
- Ensures quality of the work and deficiency identification and correction
- Ensures Contractor secures the site
- Participates in and supports construction risk assessment process.
- Identifies change requests. If no impact to scope, cost or schedule, deals with change. Otherwise change requests are escalated to the Construction Manager.
- Responsible for enforcing Field Change Authorization process.
- Monitors site to ensure compliance with project Safety Plan, Environmental Protection Plan and Quality Plan and provides status reports to the team for activities under their responsibilities.
- Reports any related issues to the Construction Manager and works jointly with Safety Specialist, Environmental Compliance Monitor, and Quality Inspector for further involvement as required.
- Provides regular written reports to the Construction Manager on the status of construction activities, identifying any issues that may impact project schedule or budget and steps taken to alleviate risk.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in a leadership role within construction projects.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ field experience in an industrial environment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency in document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel).
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience
- Relevant experience with preference given to NB Power Transmission & Distribution specific construction supervision.
- Substation construction and/or maintenance would be considered an asset.
- Experience in excess of three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in a leadership role within construction projects.
- Experience in excess of five (5) years’ field experience in an industrial environment.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills are necessary in order to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing requirements to a wide range of client groups (internal and external).
- Skilled in coaching of co-workers and contractors, negotiation, mediation of disputes or differences of opinion and conflict resolution.
- Self-motivated, ability to work independently or in a team environment and provide leadership, support, direction, and consultation to a wide range of people.
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives with strong organizational skills to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to learn to use new tools and adapt existing tools to the task at hand.
- Ability to proactively detect challenges to safety, quality, cost and schedule that will ensure development and execution of effective prevention, mitigation, or corrective actions.
- Proficiency in document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel).
