Raise is currently hiring (2) Two Piping Engineers on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

Our Clients Generation Stations Mechanical Engineering Balance of Plant (BoP) team is seeking a Senior Piping Engineer based out of Burnaby. In this role, you will support hydroelectric and thermal capital projects by designing auxiliary systems, conducting condition assessments for asset management, and providing pre-release project scoping and operational support.

Design work focuses on powerplant utility systems and industrial piping—including water, air, oil, gas, and fuel systems. Projects vary in scope from small single-discipline assignments to large, multi-discipline capital projects exceeding $100 million.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership: Demonstrate proactive safety leadership across all engineering, site, and project execution activities.
  • Engineering & Design: Act as Design Engineer, Professional of Record, and Owner’s Engineer. Review and accept external work products on behalf of .
  • Project Delivery & Documentation: Prepare detailed design calculations, Issued-for-Construction (IFC) drawings, technical specifications, engineering memos, and formal reports to support funding approvals and project execution.
  • Field Execution: Plan and execute field investigations and site visits, including traveling to and working at remote project sites across British Columbia as required.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with multi-disciplinary teams—including heavy mechanical, power unit, fire protection, electrical, civil, procurement, operations, and project management—to define project scopes and integrated technical solutions.
  • Process Improvement & Mentorship: Identify and lead operational improvements to  engineering standards and practices. Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers, technologists, consultants, and 3D designers.
  • Quality Assurance & Governance: Manage mechanical engineering work packages of varying complexity. Conduct rigorous design reviews of work completed by internal teams and third-party consultants to ensure full compliance with  standards and BC regulations.   

Qualifications

  • (4) years of directly relevant mechanical/piping engineering experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ASME (B31 series, B16, B36, BPVC), ASTM, API, MSS, CSA, and BC-specific regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial water, air, and oil piping systems and auxiliary equipment (pumps, pump stations, compressors, pressure vessels, and backup diesel generators)—including design, stress analysis, process engineering, fabrication, repairs, and retrofits.
  • Experience with 3D plant design, BIM modeling, clash detection, and model coordination using tools such as Autodesk Plant 3D, ReCap, and Navisworks.
  • Proven ability to deliver engineering scopes seamlessly from conceptual design through to final commissioning and turnover to Operations.
  • Nice-to-Haves
  • Extensive background delivering industrial piping and HVAC projects within hydroelectric powerplants from concept through construction and commissioning.
  • Transferable utility, oil & gas, mining, or heavy industrial sector experience.
  • Proficiency with specialized piping design and analysis software packages, specifically AFT FATHOM and CAESAR II.
  • Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
  • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and urgency; ability to simplify complex problems, navigate ambiguity, make sound risk-based
  • Excellent written, verbal, conflict resolution, and presentation skills.

Additional Information

  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network
