Job Overview: 

The Gas Scheduler plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely scheduling of natural gas on the Westcoast Pipeline system. This position is responsible for assessing nominations, confirmations, capacity requirements, and customer imbalances while supporting contract administration activities and delivering exceptional customer service.

Drawing on knowledge of pipeline operations and the natural gas industry, the Gas Scheduler ensures compliance with industry scheduling standards and contributes to the efficient operation of daily gas scheduling cycles. Given the direct impact on customers and commercial operations, this role requires a high degree of accuracy, responsiveness, and sound decision-making.

Gas Scheduling is an essential business function that provides coverage 12 hours per day, 365 days per year. This position requires participation in a shift schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet all gas scheduling cycle deadlines in accordance with North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) requirements.
  • Execute daily gas scheduling activities accurately and efficiently to support uninterrupted pipeline operations.
  • Utilize the LINK gas management system to evaluate nominations, confirmations, scheduled quantities, and customer imbalances.
  • Monitor and manage capacity constraints, ensuring authorized capacity records remain accurate and current.
  • Communicate with account managers and customers regarding contract renewals, open season bids, assignment requests, and operational concerns.
  • Prepare new contracts, amendments, and assignments in accordance with business requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee approval workflows for new and amended contracts.
  • Assist customers with contract submissions, execution requirements, and related documentation.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, and industry partners.
  • Respond to customer inquiries related to contracts, nominations, scheduling activities, and system functionality in a timely and professional manner.
  • Deliver training and support to customers, shippers, and internal stakeholders on systems, processes, and scheduling requirements.
  • Track customer concerns and issues through to resolution, ensuring accurate and timely follow-up.
  • Maintain daily commercial process documentation and records management practices.
  • Identify, recommend, and support continuous improvement opportunities within scheduling and commercial processes.
  • Participate in testing and validation activities for system enhancements, modifications, and upgrades.
  • Support team coverage requirements and operational continuity, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Westcoast Pipeline system, commercial operations, and related industry practices.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative team environment while independently managing day-to-day responsibilities.

Scope and Impact

  • Supports the ongoing execution and advancement of Gas Scheduling and Contract Administration activities.
  • Serves as a key operational resource responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely movement of natural gas through the Westcoast Pipeline system.
  • Works independently to manage scheduling activities while collaborating closely with internal departments, customers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Directly contributes to customer satisfaction, operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and commercial performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years of gas scheduling experience or related industry experience.
  • Strong customer service orientation with proven relationship management capabilities.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to identify, assess, and resolve issues independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Strong computer proficiency and aptitude for learning new systems and technologies.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to build productive working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in gas scheduling, pipeline operations, energy marketing, contract administration, or a related field.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Energy Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the Westcoast Pipeline system and its commercial operations.
  • Understanding of natural gas markets, transportation services, and industry practices.
  • Familiarity with pipeline scheduling systems, contract management processes, and industry regulatory requirements.
