Work Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Duration: 7-month contract (potential for extension or conversion)
Job Overview:
The Materials Planner is responsible for forecasting demand and ensuring material availability to support product lines within a service-based operations environment. This role serves as a key liaison across cross-functional teams to maintain a unified and accurate demand plan, ensuring timely procurement and availability of parts for maintenance, repair, and operational needs.
This position supports both tactical and strategic initiatives related to inventory, programs, and projects, and may provide guidance to junior planners. The role also ensures alignment with customer, program, project, and budget requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure materials operations and support services meet customer, program, and project requirements, and comply with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory standards
• Develop, document, and improve operational, business, and ERP processes and procedures
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Program Management, Engineering, Procurement, Maintenance, Production, Quality, and other support teams
• Support materials planning across various operational areas such as distribution, repair, maintenance, production, or project-based work
• Establish and maintain inventory plans to meet service level targets and customer demand
• Review and execute MRP actions, making appropriate inventory and production decisions
• Generate and manage planned orders, purchase requisitions, and production orders
• Analyze inventory against engineering changes, service updates, and demand fluctuations; implement corrective actions
• Support material obsolescence planning and mitigation strategies
• Provide support for reliability engineering initiatives
• Enforce quality control requirements
• Develop and track metrics and performance indicators to support business objectives
• Coordinate with procurement and production teams to ensure on-time material delivery
• Support new program and project launches with material planning strategies
• Generate demand forecasts using historical and reliability data
• Analyze data to identify issues and partner with leadership on solutions
• Assist in budget planning and analysis
• Participate in contract reviews and provide input on material-related impacts
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 1-3+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Materials Planning, Purchasing, or Inventory/Production Control
• Experience in materials management functions such as planning, scheduling, or procurement
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
• Experience working in cross-functional or matrixed environments
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to proactively identify and address risks
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with metrics, reporting, dashboards, and data visualization
• Experience with ERP systems and MRP processes (SAP preferred)
• Experience with Power BI
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Certifications such as APICS CPIM/CSCP or ISM CPSM are a plus
