Our client is seeking multiple skilled Metal Fabricators to join their growing shop team. This company offers manufacturing solutions for their loyal client base. If you are looking for an opportunity to move out West, or get out of the field and into the shop, this position could be right for you.

You will be responsible for reading and analyzing blueprints and engineering drawings to assess the materials needed and create templates for required metal cuts. The role involves using a variety of light and heavy machinery to make necessary cuts and assemble fabricated components into complete units.

Job Duties:

  • Analyze blueprints and engineering drawings to assess materials needed, plan the sequence of tasks, and process metal as needed.
  • Create and construct patterns and guides as templates for metal cutting, fitting, and welding.
  • Operate light machinery, including brake press, shear, cutting torch, grinder, and computer numerical control equipment (CNC).
  • Layout reference points and patterns on metals according to the templates/blueprints.
  • Assemble, fit, and weld metal sections and plates to create complete units or subunits.
  • Install fabricated components in the final product.
  • Preheat workpieces to render them malleable.
  • Monitor quality of fabrication and production.
  • Coordinate with other departments to achieve end goals, such as the machine shop and paint shop.
  • Other duties as required, working with mild steel, alloy steels, stainless steel, and aluminum.

Requirements:

  • Completion of fabrication apprenticeship or 5-10 years of experience in the custom metal fabrication industry.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and understand industry terms and conditions, drawing types, and equipment used in metal fabrication tasks.
  • Experience with Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) welding certifications an asset.
  • Knowledge of software applications related to this occupation.
  • Precise materials selection and accuracy.
  • Manual dexterity and physical ability to perform in the industry.

Work Conditions:

  • May be required to train 2-3 apprentices to achieve project success.
  • May work in potentially hazardous environments requiring protective equipment.
  • Exposure to dust, hazardous chemicals, high temperatures, and high noise levels.
  • Uncomfortable work settings with long periods of standing, crouching, or sitting.
  • Repetitive tasks within a fast-paced environment.
  • Overtime as required.
