We’re Hiring! Our key client is hiring and looking to add a Desktop Technician (Intermediate) to their team. Please check the description below and reach out to us for more details if you are interested.
* Pay: $30-35/hour on W2
* Work Type: Onsite – Baytown, TX 77520
* Duration: 12-month contract with possible extension
Key Responsibilities:
* To perform operational support for Baytown Technology and Engineering Complex (BTEC). This includes management of LabLAN user accounts, local non-domain user accounts, all lab-related computer systems, and any current/future lab-related projects.
* Current projects include a domain migration of all current domain-joined machines from legacy domain to a more robust, secure Research domain, working with multiple teams, including external vendors and the project team itself
* Lab inventory and reconciliation of said inventory (evergreen)
* Application virtualization testing, moving to VDI and away from proxies, where possible
* Work with the other lab techs and various vendors for technical solutions, upgrades, and preventative maintenance on applications controlling instruments
Qualifications:
* Comfortability with multiple operating systems and different modes within a particular operating system. Lab has Windows XP, 7, 10 & 11. Some machines operate in a kiosk mode, some in a Windows ‘test mode’ that disables driver signature enforcement, some with SMBv1 enabled.
* Understanding of internal versus external IP addresses, including DHCP versus static addresses. Need to be able to understand and troubleshoot computers with multiple NIC configurations, including proxy computers.
* Familiarity with different types of hardware. PCI card additions/removals, serial connection adapters and related device drivers to make it all work
* Desire to drill down and perform research and testing to find solutions. This is not typically a quick-fix environment.
* Strong communication skills/troubleshooting skills/good customer service
* Strong documentation skills
* Ability to at least read and understand scripting language. Huge plus if the technician can write their own scripts, even at a very basic level.
* Familiarity with remotely managing computers, both in Active Directory and through Remote Desktop.

Top 3 skills:
* Experience supporting various Windows OSes as far back as Windows XP including legacy protocols (PCI, serial, parallel port, etc.)
* Experience supporting virtualized infra (e.g., VDI, VMWare)
* Remotely managing computers in Active Directory and via Remote Desktop
